Expanding Access To Job Training Programs
Empowering Communities through Skill Development
At Students for Senegal, we believe that sustainable development begins with education and skill acquisition. Our job training programs are designed to equip individuals with practical skills that enhance their employability and empower them to contribute to their communities. We offer comprehensive training in three key areas: Textiles, Agriculture, and Computer Skills.
Textiles Training Program
Our Textiles Training Program provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in the textile industry. Through hands-on workshops and expert-led sessions, trainees learn about fabric selection, sewing techniques, pattern making, and garment production. This program not only fosters creativity but also opens up opportunities for employment in local businesses or the establishment of personal enterprises.
By the numbers
Our first textiles class had 20 individuals sign up on the first day. We purchases eight sewing machines, thousands of yards of fabric and several other pieces of specialized equipment
Accessible to All
Our programs run at a very low cost to the local community. There is a small financial buy in from participants and otherwise all expenses are covered by the organization through scholorships.
Key Components: Basic and advanced sewing techniques; Fabric selection and cutting; Pattern drafting and garment construction; Quality control and finishing; Entrepreneurial skills for small business management
Computer Skills Training Program
In today’s digital age, computer literacy is essential for both personal and professional development. Our Computer Skills Training Program offers comprehensive courses that cover basic computer operations, software applications, and internet navigation. Participants gain the technical skills needed to excel in various job markets, including administrative, technical, and creative fields.
Agriculture Training Program
Agriculture is the main source of employment for people in rural Senegal. Often, young men leave the countryside and migrate to the city in search of work so older individuals and women often are working in farms.
The Agriculture Training Program is designed to promote sustainable farming practices and improve food security within the community. Participants receive instruction on modern agricultural techniques, crop management, and livestock care. This program emphasizes environmentally friendly practices and the efficient use of resources to ensure long-term agricultural productivity.
For $50 per participant, we can provide a scholarship to one individual to attend a job training course.
